Mustang Mentoring Day- Alumni Supporting Student Success . Please Note --> This is a Past Event!! .
Date: 11/14/2009 Time: 9:00 AM TO 2:00 PM
Event Description: Cal Poly Alumni Relations and the CENG Student Council are thrilled to announce a unique opportunity for engineering students to connect with Alumni and Friends of Cal Poly who are currently working in the field. How it works: Through a dynamic “speed mentoring” process, students will have the chance to meet with multiple professionals who can bring real world perspective to their career planning. Speed mentoring is a time-efficient networking technique designed to allow participants to “try on” a number of mentoring relationships to see which ones resonate. This session will be followed with pairings of students and mentors, providing the opportunity for up to 2 more in-depth conversations and the chance to develop lasting friendships and/or mentoring partnerships. For mentors, this is a chance to: * Share your insights with a group of vibrant engineering students who are entering the field * Enhance your skills and learn about yourself. Mentoring allows you to strengthen your coaching and leadership skills by working with individuals from different backgrounds and with different personality types * Achieve a sense of accomplishment knowing that you are giving back and contributing to the future while allowing others to benefit from your experience * Network with students and other accomplished alumni mentors * Make a difference in a graduating seniors' transition into the working world * Catch up with what's going on at Cal Poly and have a great excuse to return for a tax-deductible visit to the beautiful Central Coast! If you are interested in becoming a mentor for graduating Cal Poly students and are able to make it to campus on 11/14, fill out the mentor interest form @ http://www.calpolylink.com/mentorinterestform. For students, this is a chance to: * Gain valuable insights into the current landscape of your chosen field * Develop your personal network with new contacts who can provide career direction and support * Potentially identify and cultivate a more long term mentoring relationship * Collaborate with peers who are tackling similar career development issues * Practice your professional conversation skills with a variety of colleagues * Tap into the richness of the Cal Poly community and strengthen your future professional opportunities
